Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

How do I protect myself against a relative that is giving out my contact information to her creditors? Furthermore, this relative knows my social security number and I am concerned that she may use it to obtain new credit; how do I protect myself from identity theft against a specific individual?

First, place a fraud alert on your credit report. Contact all three bureaus to determine how best to do that. Second, you cannot stop someone from giving out your contact information without obtaining a court order. Although it has no real protected purpose, it is very likely governed by the first amendment, right of free speech. Without filing a lawsuit and obtaining a protective order, I don't see how you can stop her from continuing to do what she is doing.
