My wife and I had a friend staying with us for a couple of months, she went to the hospital and gave bith, we thought that she paid all the bills before she left. Collections are calling our house for payment. My wife and I did not sign any papers. Are we responsible for this debt and how do we handle collection people calls. Thanks

Re: Public hospital bills

You should obtain an attorney. Once an attonrey is obtained, the creditor can not contact you directly or you may have a lawsuit against it or the collection agency under the State and/or Federal Fair Debt Collection Act. It does not appear that you are liable for the debt. Please contact our office at 714 363 0220 for consultation and review of any documentation that you have.

No! Direct the callers to your "friend," or just ignore them.

Re: Public hospital bills

You are not responsible. Tell them not to telephone you. Get their address and tell them not to call you. If they then telephone you, they are violating the law.
