Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Question re: Lien on a joint tenancy property

My husband and my mother have a joint tenancy property, because of debts she has had a lien put on the property, she is also terminally ill, and will pass away anytime, the property will then be solely owned by my husband, how can we have the lien taken off so that we can sell the property? He would not be responsible for that debt would he? he did not incur it,and after she passes her name will not be on the property anymore,
