If you have a lawyer, the other lawyer isn't allowed to talk to you directly. This is one of the many ways pro pers lose. They talk to the other lawyer, and the other lawyer misrepresents to the court what was said. Many things a party says to an opposing lawyer is admissible as evidence and the party can be questioned about it, for example at a deposition.
