Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I have just rec'd a summons for a cc debt in california. My husband does not know of the debt nor the summons. What can I do to prevent the creditors from attempted to collect from my husband. I am only able to make small payments to settle. What should my steps be now that I have been served

Do not contact the creditor or make any payments until you have spoken to a lawyer.

You need to pay the debt, because sooner or later you will. There is nothing you can do to keep them from collecting from community property, including community income without telling your husband, and very little you can do even after telling him.
