Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I received a call on my personal cell phone from a "Caroline Adams" stating that she received papers on her desk about a pending claim in my name with my social security number. She goes on by saying that she will be delivering a certified notice of intent about a pending claim against me. She did not give me anymore information about claim, nor say what company or law office she was from. She also says that if they dont hear from me at the toll free number she gave, then she will go to my home or place of work and serve the papers. Is this legit? Do claims reps usually give a courtesy call in regards to matters like these? Thanks for you help.

There is no such thing as a courtesy call.. They are attempting collect a debt or are initiating a lawsuit ( or it is a scam). They now have made first contact and must validate the debt within 5 days if try are collecting money.

Call them and ask what us up, ask specifically who they are because they have to tell you, tell gem to validate the debt...if you need help after that contact an attorney.
