Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
I received a call at work from a very rude man telling that I was being sued for non payment of a loan. First off I have never used to the company he says I used and he won't give me any information if I don't give him my credit card number. Now he is saying I am going to be arrested tomorrow at my work. He just called my supervisor and told her that someone will be coming to my work tomorrow. I don't know what to do because I have no information. I even tried discussing a repayment option but he won't give me any more information. What do I do?

Call the police yourself. You have been targeted by a con artist.
Ask him his name and the name and address of the company he works for. If he doesn't give this information to you, hang up. Under no circumstances give him your credit card number or bank account info. Do not discuss the alleged debt. This appears to be a scam. Any reputable collection agency (ha ha) would know it's against federal law to threaten people with arrest (and to refuse to give you his firm's name and address). If this turns out to be a real collection agency, you have a potentially good lawsuit against them and I'd like to hear from you. If he leaves you voice mail, save it.
