Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I received a court judgment against me ($25K) for a credit card debt (orginally around $12K). A collection agency has tracked me down (I was out of the country when the judgment happened) and offered to settle for $6K. I would like to take advantage of this - but how do I know I'm not being taken advantage of or that I don't have any other options? It all seems like it has come to a place that is essentially in my favor, but I'm wondering ...just in case...just in case I don't know what but just in case...

thanks,

Lisa

Get it all in writing. Make sure they are authorized to negotiate the debt. And obtain a satisifaction form signed, and filed.
