Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Received judgment and levy on 10 yr old rent

On 6/5/06 i received a judgment in the mail on a 10 year old debt. This was the situation 10 years ago. I was a single mother of 2 w/no child support. Because of a cancer situation (long story) I told my landlord when the rent became due in 2 weeks I wouldn't have the full amount; asked him if he would accept part until I got the rest. He said no. I said I would move. He said he would still have to report it as non-payment of rent and serve me a notice to move (even though I told him I would move). He had a 3 day notice to pay or quit taped to my door. I moved in 2 days. Now it is 10 years later-I received a judgment for that in the amount of $4341 (the rent was $850) and the next day (6/6/06) they took $381 out of my bank account. 4 weeks ago my employer decided I should be an independent contractor and work from home so he didn't have to pay employee taxes, etc. We are starving and I didn't need them taking my current rent money. I don't know what to do and have to answer this NOW!! thank you so much for any help!

Without seeing the documents, I could only venture to guess that they renewed the judgment, which is good for 10 years. You might want to bring the documents to a lawyer at Legal Aid or some other public service legal agency to at least give you some guidance.
