Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I received a phone call from Liberty Capital Services, 655 S. main St, Suite 200-362, Orange, Ca 92868, (657)269-5753. saying there was a sherrif waiting outside my job to serve me with papers to go to court for a credit debt from 2009. they said if i do not want to be served and go to court i had to make payment arrangements and give them my credit info to make the automatice payments on certain dates. they sent me some agreement to sign and to put my credit card info on it. I have tried to find out information about this collection agency but i cannot find anything on them. What can I do? I am very reluctant to give my information to them. If i go to court can i get payment arrangements through the court? i don't have the money so can they garnish my wages or put a lien on my checking acct?

Do not speak to them and especially do not ever give out your financial info to any collection agency or stranger on the phone. This outfit is probably a scam since the tactics they are using are illegal and would get any "legitimate" collection agency sued. If there were a real collection agency with that name and address you would be able to google it. If you receive mail from them I would like to hear from you.

Get a lawyer and you can sue them for Unfair Debt Collection practices. Also report them to the State Dept. of Consumer Affairs, who may be able to shut them down.
