Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

i recently got a bill from my dental office where i had some work done in august of 2007. i was told that my dental ppo insurance would cover the work done but i had a copay of about 150.00 and it was paid on the day of service. now they are saying that i owe almost 700.00 because the insurance didnt pay for all of it. my question is can they still bill me since the service was more than 4 years ago. i called them and asked why am i only getting the bill now and they said that they had computer billing issues or their biller was not doing their work properly.

Well, it's not quite four years. It depends how your insurance is set up. Why don't you check with your insurance carrier, and see what the carrier has to say about your obligation before you even talk with the dentist's office about the bill.

August 2007 is not over four years ago. So, yes, they can come after you for it. Mr. Cohen is correct, however, that you should try to double check with the insurance company about it and see if there was some mistake. Also, if it was work you would not have had done if it was not covered, and they represented to you that it was covered, you can probably negotiate a settlement with the dentist based on their misrepresentation about coverage.
