Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

When I was in the a relationship I was force by my partner to sign a document loan document against my will. Now that we are broken up he wants to collect money that was never given to me? This who issue started when I complain to him that I been the one always buying his groceries (we never lived together). His defense was that since he courted me he spent a lot of money on me as well. He then created a note and ask me to sign the note against my will. I signed the note because he would not let me go. What should I do? He has already filed a case against me into a small claim court. Can you please advice?

Based on the information provided, it appears you were coerced into signing a note. Coercion is a defense that you can present to the small claims judge. If you have been sued in small claims, you will need to attend the hearing and explain to the judge why you signed the note. If the judge believes you, you may be releived of your obligation to pay.

Good luck.
