Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Release of financial information

Does a credit company have the right to contact neighbors and employers and describing my personal financial situation? Are they able to tell the neighbors/employers that I am behind on a payment? What legal action may I pursue if any?

No, if you have put a third party creditor on written notice that you do NOT authorize them to contact others regarding your debt, then they must legally abide by your request or be in violation of FDCPA laws in place protecting the consumer.
