Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

returned car stole us wrong one

Hi there, my question is :

I bought a used car at a new car dealership in

Sept 98. When I went to insure it I realized that the car I bought was 6 cylinder but my contract said it was 4 cylinder. At first the dealer would not take it back, 3 days later he did. He tried convincing me that I was better off keeping it because although it was not a repo it would look bad on my credit report because I returned it. Why should it look bad if he messed up the paper work? So , can you tell me if there is any truth to that or was he just talking stuff that is not true? Please advise me, thanks
