Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

satisfaction of judgment

I have a small claims judgment against me and I paid if off straight away. Actually released money in an escrow hold AND paid court costs AND my credit scores have dropped so I can't even buy a mattress..

Will a satisfaction of judgment raise my credit scores again to where they should be? I should get a possitive result instead of a negative because I paid what I owed straight away...

Re: satisfaction of judgment

Yes, the plaintiff is supposed to file an acknowledgment of satisfaction of judgment with the court. That should improve your credit score. A letter to the plaintiff telling him he needs to file the form should take care of it--otherwise, you will have to sue the plaintiff in small claims court for failing to file the acknowledgement.

Re: satisfaction of judgment

Alternatively, you can provide the plaintiff with a satisfaction of judgment, have him/her date and sign it and return it to you for filing -- just so you know it gets done!
