Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Sending to collections

After vacating an appartment we received a bill from a collection agency stating they were attempting to collect money unpaid by us due to our old appartment for cleaning and damages. We received this bill no less than nine months after we moved out. Prior to this bill we had no contact from the appartment managment. Can the managment company send us to collections without attempting to collect directly from us first?

Thank you

Re: Sending to collections

In order to be able to assist you, I need to see a copy of the lease, any letters your received and any accountings you received from the Landlord. If you fax these to me at 714 363 0229, I will provide you with free consultation.

Re: Sending to collections

They are required to send an itemized list of any damages to the address you gave them to forward things to when you moved.

The collection agency must still do that. If you owe it, you should pay it with the written agreement from the collection agency that they will not make a report on your credit report.
