Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Separate credit for married people

I need to know what to file and with who on the issue of separating my credit from my husband. We have been married for six years. The only things that have both our names on it is the lease for the apartment, or car insurance and our tax return. We each have debt that we got during our marriage, but in our own names. With out getting a divorce, filing bankrupcy or legal separation can we permanently separate our credit in the state of California? We each have credit cards, cars, loans, bank accounts, etc with out the other person on them. I need to know how to make one not responsible for the other ones debt. Thank you.

Re: Separate credit for married people

Any debt you both signed for will always be the responsibility of both of you until it is paid. You are free at any time to apply for new credit in your own name only.
