Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
I was served by a process server at work for debt collection: He walked into the Lobby with his Badge and stated to the receptionist he was with the District Court and needed to meet with me regarding a Court issue. I was paged and went to the lobby where I was served infront of everyone.
Is this a violation of Rosenthal or Federal Fair Debt Collection?

Service of process is unpleasant, whether it's by a civilian, or an armed, 6'4" sheriff. It happens when a creditor sues and... they like to sue. (Well, I don't know if they "like" it, but they certainly do it.) In the debtor's arsenal is the legal privilege of filing for federal bankruptcy relief. Otherwise, debt collection--in all its pernicious forms will persist. What's done is done as far as this service of process, but if you're indebted to multiple creditors, it can happen again.
