Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Served with a summons

I was served with a summons a few days ago. It says I am being sued for an unpaid credit card debt of about $1,500 and interest. It says I must file a response within 30 days. What are my options? Do I need an attorney?

Re: Served with a summons

Is it a small claims lawsuit or a Superior Court (Limited Jurisdiction) case? If it is small claims court, you need to appear on the date shown. If it is a Superior Court case, then you need to file an answer. Look around on here and you will find links to an answer or go to www.courtinfo.ca.gov and you can look at the answer form there.

You should at least consult with an attorney to determine if the lawsuit is proper and how it might best be resolved. You can read about this and some of your options at my blog, http://www.californiadebtblog.com

Feel free to give me a holler on Monday for a free phone consultation. I've had some pretty good success on behalf of consumers.
