Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Show Cause

I have been requested to show cause why sanctions should not be placed against me for not attending a court hearing on a debt collection. I was at the court house on the date of the hearing but I went to the wrong Dept. In the meantime four days prior to the court hearing I sent a check to cover the full amount of the debt to Plaintiff's attorney. This check cleared the bank the day after the court hearing. Where do I legally stand at this point. I have not received any kind of acknowledgement from the plaintiff's attorney about the full payment.

Re: Show Cause

Call the creditor's attorney and ask him/her to dismiss the case and to acknowledge payment. Also, put the request in writing. If the lawyer doesn't do so, you might have to file a motion to dismiss, and attach your evidence (a true and complete copy of both sides of the payment check). Good luck.
