Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I signed up for a $5,000 sales training course with my employer January 2005. They were supposed to take $250 from each transaction I closed for one year and then charge the remaining balance against my credit card. I don't know what, if anything, was taken from my transactions, but it couldn't have been much. But they never charged me for the balance.

I have not worked for this company since late 2007. I had a major closing in 2007, at which time I thought they would take any remaining balance from my proceeds. But, when I inquired about it, they said they didn't have any record of me owing any money for training and I have never been contacted about it.

Is there a statute of limitations in this type of situation?

This is a little complicated, becasue it seems like this is a contract within an employment contract that is ongoing, but I think I could still successfully argue that either the four year or two year limitations on contracts would apply.
