Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

My sister lives in a different state. Debt collectors have been calling ME about money she owes. I did not co-sign any loans for her. When I tell them it is illegal for them to call me and that I am not responsible for her debts they say things like "what kind of a brother are you?" and "don't you love your sister". Is there anything I can do to get them to stop?

Debt collectors may communicate with 3rd parties only under limited circumstances. They certainly may not discuss another person's debt with you. Send them a cease and desist letter requesting they stop contacting you.

A consumer rights firm, like ours, that is familiar with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and California Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act should be able to help you.
