Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Small claims court question

What can happen when a business takes a consumer to small claims court for the amount of $2700? Are there court fees attached to the amount? If you don't have the money, can they somehow force if from you??

Re: Small claims court question

If the plaintiff wins, court costs, including the filing fee and the service fee, are added to the amount of the judgment.

If you cannot pay the judgment, they may set a debtor's examination and require that you provide documents to support your income, bank accounts, etc... They can then garnish wages or file a lien against any property you own.
