In Small Claims Court, on a verbal sale of a car to a friend which is the statute of limitation of time to take this case to court, there is nothing in writing but many witnesses willing to testify.

Thanks for your inquiry. For breach of an Oral Contract, the statute of limitations is Two Years. (Code Of Civil Procedure Section 339).

HOWEVER, you should not delay in a case that relies upon witnesses. Witnesses forget things, move, change their friendships, and you shoudl plan to act sooner, rather than later.
