Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Small Claims Judgment

I have a friend who lives in Oregon. She is being sued by a creditor in small claims court for a past due monthly payment owed on a specific credit card account. The amount claimed in the suit is $800 but the balance owed on the account is around $9,000. If the creditor obtains a judgment against my friend in small claims court for the amount of $800, can they then continue to collect on the total outstanding balance of $9,000 and possibly eventually sue her again for the total balance owing on the account?

I have never heard of a creditor suing for the past due amount only and then being able to collect on the remainder of the debt. Please advise if this is a viable option for this creditor in the State of Oregon.

Thank you for your assistance.
