Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Is my spouce liable for a credit card debt I had before we were married?

Collections contacted me on a credit card debt that is over 12 years old, since then I've married and the collection agency said that my husbands wages will be garnished. The card was mine only and had my maiden name on it. Is he at all liable for my past credit debt? And is there a statue of limitations on credit cards debts?

A spouse can be liable for the old debt. However, the statute of limitations for suing on this kind of debt is 4 years. The collection agency is violating State and Federal law with their tactics.
