Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Can S.S. disability check be attached

I have a collection agency that has told me that they were going to attache my social security disability. I have been told that this can not be done unless it is for federal money owed. I was going to file bankruptcy but the attornies here told me that I am judgement free due to the fact I own nothing and only have SSD for income in fact they even said I can't afford to file bankruptcy. Have I been told the right information. Also can they use this type of scare tacted to try to collect a debt?

Thank you very much for the help because this really worries me due to the fact I am bedridden and have no other income.

The false information they told you may have violated the Fair Debt Collection Act. Do you have any correspondence from them yet or is it just a phone call? I may be able to help you.
