Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Stafford Loan
I applied for a stafford loan in 1990 and never attended the school in question. I called and advised i would not be attending. I never received any monies personally, and i am not sure whether i had eft payments or checks were sent regardless i never received either. I have since then received pell grants and have not had my taxes taken. I was notified by my college 05/03 that the National Student Loan Data System indated I was in default under the California Student aid commission, I payed that loan off and have a letter of debt paid in full and was not notified of the other debt and now they are trying to nail me with an additional 12k. Can I fight this and isn't this past the statue of limitations? I don't feel I should have to pay for something i didn't recieve and no can show me proof of my signiture on a check or my school records showing that i attended.
Thank You
Bridget
