Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Statue Limitation Judgement

What is the time limt to collect on a judgement? Apparently a collection company optained a default judgement on 9/13/1994 for a Doctors bill stemming from a work related accident for services in 1993. I was never noticed of the suit. Anyway, over 13 years has pasted and the collection agencey has just served my Employer with a wage garnishment through the Sheriff's Divison. What can I do?

Re: Statue Limitation Judgement

A judgment in CA is good for ten years, and it may be renewed for another 10. You might check at the local courthouse where the suit was filed to see if it was properly renewed. A lot of courts have records online for free, so check that first.
