Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Statue of limitation Penalties & Interest

I had a dispute with a wirelees cell phone Co and tried to fulfill my end of contract. I set up a program that needed 5 phones for my business. Phones were dropping calls or consistantly failing. Even though I had insurance I had to pay 50 dollars to buy a new phone even though I felt it was a defective phone. After 1 yr. I set up a cheaper plan so I could use only the 2 phones I had left but kept paying on the original 5 phones. then other 2 phones went dead . They refused to give me 2 new or used phones even though I am trying to fulfill my 2 year contract. I feel they breached their contract because of dropped calls & unusable or defective phones & not be able to communicate with Customers. I tried to pay what I feel I owed them for the last months service but they just sent my account to a collection Agency that has a reputation of high penalties and interest. I also did a search of complaints againts the coll. agency and they are breaking laws. They say I owe over $1,000.00. My question pertain to a reasonable penaltys and interest :staue of limitation, my rights and what can happen if with the penaltys & interest reach over $5000.00.

Am I then subject to being sued and have a judement againts me without me knowing
