If the debt arises from a written contract (i.e., a credit card debt, promissory note, or other writing), the statute is 4 years. If the debt arises out of a verbal contract it is 2 years. If the debt is owed because of goods or services you received without any writing, the statue could be either 2 or 4 years, depending upon the theory of recovery.
