Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Statue of Limitations for selling account to collection agencies
How can I stop Fingerhut from selling my account from 1996 to numerous collection agencies continuing to hound me. Is there a statue of limitations on such a thing?
Also, I had an identity theft situation with Verizon Wireless. A police report was filed; yet I still keep getting calls and collection agencies hounding me.
I need to get all of this removed from my credit reports.

As to the idetity theft, you can put a comment on each of your three credit reports. Also, police departments have special identity theft units.
As to Fingerhut and its collection agencies, tell them it's old debt. If they send you letters, send them certified return receipt letters (keep a copy) disputing the debt and asking for verification. If they're calling you, tell them that under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, they are never to call you again.
