Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I'm Being Sued For Breach of Contract

I'm being sued for Breach of Contract in the ''Notice to Defendant'' box is printed Does 1 to 20- what does that mean? Also the summons states I need to respond in a typewritten letter in ''Proper legal form if you want the court to hear your case'' What is the proper form. I have looked into Bankruptcy because my debts have exceeded my ability to pay even if I consolidate. The cost to file Bankruptcy is prohibitive for me, as I made less than 15,000 last year. Should I put this information in my response to the court? I'm being sued by a friend who loaned me money without a repayment date set. Without contacting me to see what my financial situation is right now she filed a lawsuit against me. I cannot afford an attorney to help me through this.

There is a particular form you need to use. It is called an answer to complaint. There's another form that you also might be able to use called a general denial. Both of these forms can be purchased for a few pennies from the court clerk. If you are short of funds, you should also ask the court clerk for the forms you need to apply for a waiver of the filing fees.

I agree with the prior response. The court will require a filing with your "Answer" to the Complaint unless additional forms are filed requesting and approving a waiver. If you are considering a Bankruptcy, you should discuss it with a local attorney. Most offer free consultations. Should you like to set up a consultation with my office, you can call me at (818) 992-6588. Good luck to you.
