Being sued by creditor

I am being sued by a credit card company for $6,000. Am a widow, disabled and on a VA pension/SSI for $830 a month. I cannot pay this debt. I have no assets. Should I write a letter explaining my situation to the creditor's attorney? Can they garnishee my checking account if getting a judgment?

No, yes. A letter will do you no good other than to put the creditor on notice that you have funds in a bank account that the creditor will seize. I think your best option may be to open a bank account in the name of a trust. See if you can get the Soc. Sec. Admin. to make a direct deposit into a trust.
