Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I was summoned by an attorney to settle a past debt from may 2006, i tried to settle it for over 2 months and they kept giving me the run around as far as call backs and forthe then i researched the statute of limitations stating after 4 years that a agreement is over..is this true? or what should i do?

The statute of limitation usually is four years from the date of the last payment, unless the creditor has filed suit in time. Then it's a different story.

I can depend on the debt and if there is a written contract and if the contract says the laws of another state will apply.
