Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
suspected of credit card fraud
I may have used a stolen credit card on a phone line and when the call went through I hung up.The charges on the credit card was about $5.I received a phone call today from the police department, but haven't answered any quetions yet. Do you think the penalties if I was charged for fraud would be severe? Can it go to court? Could I settle out of court if I pay the charges?

Don't answer any questions from the police. Find out (without giving out your name, and don't call from your home phone #) the address of the credit card company. Buy a postal money order in the amount of the charge, write the credit card number on the bottom, and send it to the credit card company. Then take the card and tear it up into little itty bitty pieces and throw it in a sewer. Then pray. And don't do it again.

They can charge you, and you may have to prove your innocence. Better hire an attorney.
