Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

tax lien/credit

When I first moved to and filed taxes in CA, I went to tax preparer, who filed for me as head of household. I later was notified by FTB that I should have filed as single, so I owed a substantial balance and a tax lien was filed against me. The debt was satisfied and the lien released in Feb., 2002. Now the lien is still adversely affecting my credit. Is there any way to remove the lien from my credit report or otherwise remedy this situation, other than simply waiting?

Re: tax lien/credit

You can file a dispute with the three credit reporting agencies. If the reports show a lien release and nothing is changed after your dispute, short of contacting the FTB and pleading with it to remove it from your reports, you might just have to wait.

You can dispute it. You can do this online with all credit bureaus now. If it shows as released, you can call the FTB and ask them to have it removed, but it is doubtful they will. You will probably end up having to wait it out.
