Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Telephone Calls From Debt Collectors

I am receiving numerous calls from debt collectors. I am in debt to these collectors due to loss of job resulting in default on credit card payments. The calls are legitimate. However, the number of calls is excessive and blocking my ability to receive calls from prospective employers, and filling my answering machine daily. How can I recapture the use of my own telephone and answering machine for job search and acquisition?

Re: Telephone Calls From Debt Collectors

You may tell the callers to stop calling. They must do so under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Have you considered filing for bankruptcy if your debts are unmanageable?
