Unauthorized payment from credit card company

I am currently past due on my Bank of America credit card, due to currently being laid off from my job. I told them I was unemployed and couldn't make the payment- I even told them to check for themselves that I didn't have the funds in my checking account (with B of A as well). They originally told me they were not authorized to get into my checking account, but I checked my account today, and they made a check to themselves for a payment. Wondering if this is something legit?

Read The Friendly Contract (actually both the bank's account agreement, and also your credit card agreement). You kept a copy, right?
