Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

unfair billing question

I attended a school who did not inform me of any additional charge for some training I received until after the training was complete. They are now in attempt to charge me for this additional training which I was lead to believe was inclusive in the tuition payment made. Am i obligated to pay this debt, if not how do I resolve this matter? If so please explain why.

Re: unfair billing question

This is pretty much a pure contractual issue: What does your agreement with the school state about the described training you were to receive vs. any additional services which they might provide? If they specified only a certain type of training, and you were aware that the extra training was not included in the agreement, they have a better chance of holding you responsible for payment. Conversely, if there was no adequate description of the training to be provided, and they did not obtain your consent to the additional expense, then you should be able to avoid the additional expense.

I'd have them provide you with a written explanation of the charges which references the terms of the agreement which justify their additional charges. I'd do that in a written letter to the school, certified mail/return receipt requested, which also disputes the amount of the charges you claim you didn't agree to when you signed up. Give them two weeks to respond. If they respond in writing, see a lawyer.
