Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
I have an upcoming court appearance in another state but I financially cannot afford to be there. I do not want a failure to appear warrant issued because I have a security clearance that I don't want to jeopardize but I simply would like to request a continuance to resolve the financial obligation. What are my legal options to avoid the failure to appear warrant and the chances of successfully getting a continuance. I have an outstanding balance owed to the state employment commission that I want to pay as quickly as possible. It's simply not possible to be in court because of my financial situation. Any advice on what my options are???

There's a phone service called CourtCall that might be able to set up your appearance by phone. Check with them. If they don't serve that state, you might call the courtroom clerk directly and see if you can get approval to appear by telephone under the circumstances.
