Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Vehicle Repossession Balance Collection

I recently had my vehicle repossessed and am being threatened by a collection agency of municipal court proceedings against me to collect the balance owed on this vehicle. The balance exceeds $3,000.00 and I cannot afford to pay for a vehicle I no longer have. My question is if I were to file bankruptcy including this debt, would this legally clear me of the responsibility of this debt? Any direction that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
