wage garnishments in Calif

Can a judgement recovery garnish your wages for double of what the judgement was for and then have your license suspended until the amount is paid off.

The judgment creditor can only seek to recover the amount of the judgment plus any additional fees and costs to which they are lawfully entitled, so the amount could be more than the original amount. As for the license, it depends upon what kind of license, and what the original judgment was for. If, for example, you are a contractor, and you fail to pay a judgment, I believe that the CSLB can suspend your license pending repayment. That usually arises in the context of your bond being drawn upon to satisfy the judgment, and therefore withdrawn until it is repaid, but there are some instances where a license can be affected by non-payment of a judgment. Attorneys' licenses can be suspended for failure to pay a judgment or restitution order to clients.
