Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

my wife and i were seperated, i know longer lived in the house, and i had started to pay the attorney a retainer for him to handle our divorce, i had agreed to pay all the bills while we were togather.

then about 3 months after we were seperated she was killed as the results of an automible accident, she had no income, medical insurance, and no estate am i responsable for all the bills generated by this accident, i am a resident of california.

please help
