Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I've been out of work the past two years, thanks to our lovely economy and therefor have been unable to keep up with my credit card bills. For a while I was basically living off them because I had no other income, and now I thankfully have my mom's help to pay rent, my phone, etc. The credit cards I owe on are starting to turn to debt collection agencies and lawyers to collect what I owe them. While I have no summons to court yet, or any other offer other than to negotiate a way to pay them I fear they may try to freeze my bank account since I have no job to garnish wages from. My mom only sends me $1700 a month of which $1000 goes to my rent and the remaining $700 I use on my phone bill, cable/internet, food, and gas. If I don't have that $1700 every month I literally have no way to survive, which is why my fear of my bank account being frozen scares me. While I'm not in the position right now, I'm trying to find answers in advance so I can be prepared and able to take action if need be. Can these collection agencies/lawyers truly freeze out my account completely to the point where I could go homeless and with nothing to survive on? What should I be prepared for in the event of this? I live in California. I'm not sure of California's bank account freezing laws.
