Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Wrong credit reporting
About two years ago a Company replaced french doors and windows in my house. They were paid 50% down and balance due on installation. On completion of installation we found that a major panel is badly damaged and needs replacement. The installation guy will not leave without getting his check and after disucssions with his main office they agreed that I keep $1000 dollars until the problem is solved.
I took them almost two years to replaced the panel and the balance amount was paid immidately to them against a receipt. (This was done after some telephone call between them and us)
On checking my credit report I found a negative collection note for $1265 and shown it is not settled. What is the best way to deal with this.

Re: Wrong credit reporting
Notify, in writing, both the credit reporting agency and the contractor that the debt is disputed. Further demand that they should remedy the problem as soon as possible (and provide you with proof that they accomplished same) or you reserve the right to pursue your remedies, including those under the US and CA Fair Credit Reporting Act
