Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

647 b charge

Hello,

I recently was cited on a 647(b), soliciation of prostitute charge in Roseville, California. It was an operation where an ad was placed on online, I called it, showed up and it was a sting operation set up by the city.

They did not book me, told me I would be cited with a misdemeanor or as they put it ''consider it a warning''..I have a date to appear. I have NOTHING on my record, totally clean. People I speak with including court personell, my attorney, etc. tell me I will not due any time for this but will likley pay a fine and maybe a probationary period since it was my FIRST offense..I have since enrolled in a church counseling program because I know what I did was wrong, but I can't keep helping fearing they will want me to go to jail and do time, which would be deterimental to my family situation etc.

Can you advise me if the items my colleagues are telling me of are likley so...looking in local records I dod see anyone listed as doing time for this so I assume they are right, I am just a worrisom person...who has surely learned by my mistake...again, nothing else on my record EVER so I assume that plays into the favor of a fine and maybe probation or defeerel ??

Thanks Much !

Re: 647 b charge

It is very unlikely that you will be sentenced to jail. A fine and perhaps some community service are more likely.

You should get an attorney if you don't have one already, since a lawyer may be able to negotiate the charge down to disorderly conduct -- a less serious offense which is also much less embarassing on your record.

Good luck.
