18 with a DUI, what will happen?
My 18 year old son with learners permit--name removed--got a DUI on January 1,2000--name removed--There was a 19 year old in the car and this person had a pipe which he admitted was his but the officer put on the citation as it being in my sons posession--name removed--My son is still in High School and not employed--name removed--will he have to go to jail--name removed--What can we expect?

You need to retain an attorney to represent your son immediately. He may have defenses to the charge that an attorney will recognize and raise in his defense.
Most courts consider the blood alcohol level, the driving that attracked the attention of the police officer. If he was not under the influence of a drug, other than alcohol,there is a good chance that he will not get any actual jail time. Usually the court will give him 48 hours in jail or 6 days o the weekend work program. The work program has the person report in the morning to do public service work, and then goes home at night. There would also be a substantial fine, around $1,200 to 1,800. The fine can be paid off over time.
