Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
490.1 infraction
My daughter and a friend (15 & 16 yrs) were caught shoplifting at a local mall. They were issued 490.1 infraction citation because it was their first offence. They are both in the 10th grade and honor students. Will this will this follow them forever or their college applications later? They are to report to traffic court in feb, 08.

Re: 490.1 infraction
They should be able to earn themselves complete dismissal although the court in all likelihood will require them to take some classes or counseling or write an essay. Get yourself a lawyer or go there yourself to beg the judge to allow them to keep their records clean. You should do everything you can to keep the record clean. Although there should be no problem you just never know how certain convictions might affect the kids in the future.
