Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

in 1968 I lived in California, I left my 5 children in the care of a very reliable babysitter while I went to work. The babysitter forgot to bring his medicine with him and told my oldest daughter age 11 to lock the door and not to open it for anyone but him and that it would take him 1/2 hour to go to his house to get his medicine. The neighbor lady across the street called the police and told them there was children left alone in the house. The babysitter called me at work and said the lady across the street had called the police and the kids were gone including his child. I rushed to the police station and tried to explain the situation but they would nor listen and would not give my children to me. they said I had a warrant for my arrest for Cruelty to child and later on they changed the charge to Willful Cruelty to child. I went to court with full intentions to plead not guilty but there was a woman police officer told me that I better plead guilty and that all I would get was unsupervised probation and if I didn't plead guilty I would get 5 years in prison I had no choice and pled guilty to something I didn't do. I left California in 1970 I have not been able to get a good job since. I am 76 years old and still looking for work but my record is preventing me from working with children. I want to get this charge off my record, can it be done. The disposition of this charge was, convicted. Convicted Status: Misdemeanor SEN 036 Months Probation , IMP SEN SS
